Nonproliferation Treaty

1. An agreement made in 1968 to discourage the spread of nuclear weapons . It has been ratified by ninety-two countries, but not by all countries with the potential to develop nuclear weapons. Neither India nor Pakistan , each of which subsequently developed nuclear weapons, ratified it.
