The International Day of Peace is a day dedicated to peace among the nations of the world. It’s intended to encourage nations to make a commitment to peace.

The day was established by the United Nations (UN), the international organization formed to promote international peace, security, and cooperation.

Each International Day of Peace is given a theme that reflects current issues. Observance of the day typically includes educational events and activities, as well as a minute of silence at noon. The UN also encourages the day to be observed as a 24-period of nonviolence and a ceasefire for nations engaged in active combat.

Where does International Day of Peace come from?

International Day of Peace was established by the United Nations in 1981. It was originally set to be observed on the third Tuesday in September to coincide with the opening of the UN General Assembly. However, the date was fixed as September 21 in 2001, and it has been celebrated on this day since 2002.
