psia vs. psig

PSIA vs. PSIG: What's the difference?

PSIA stands for “pounds per square inch, absolute,” while PSIG stands for “pounds per square inch, gauge.” They are both measures of pressure. PSIA measures pressure relative to a perfect vacuum, while PSIG measures it relative to ambient atmospheric pressure. Because it’s relative to existing pressure, PSIG is lower than PSIA.
