More About Edacity
What is edacity?
Edacity is the state of being edacious. Something or someone that is edacious is devouring or voracious.
When someone is showing edacity, they are craving or consuming large amounts of something. Most often, edacity is used in reference to food. For example, you might be in a state of edacity if you’ve been fasting all day. You’ll be more than hungry—you’ll be so strongly craving food that you might be eating as much as you can, as quickly as you can.
Less often, edacity is used in relation to other things you might want or consume in large amounts, such as reading or listening to music.
Example: We were all filled with edacity after that 10-mile hike with no snacks.
Where does edacity come from?
The first records of the term edacity come from around the 1620s. It ultimately comes from the Latin edāx, meaning “gluttonous.”
Edacity can be used to describe humans, animals, or if used figuratively, any force that consumes something. A fire, for example, is sometimes described as “consuming” the things it burns. You might say, then, that a wildfire was filled with edacity, consuming everything in its path.

No disgrace in moist eyes. The drought of our hearts seek rain of compassion.
We need grace and generosity of the skies.
We need mercy and humility of the earth.
