- a river rising in the southwestern Russian Federation near Belgorod, flowing southeast through Ukraine to the Don River. About 650 miles (1,045 km) long.
- Also called Do·nets Ba·sin [d, uh, -, nets, , bey, -s, uh, n]. an area south of this river, in in eastern Ukraine: coal mining region and industrial area. 9,650 sq. mi. (24,995 sq. km).
